DTC P0125: Closed Loop Temp. Not Reached

NOTE: For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
NOTE: Closed loop operation is monitored after engine has been running for 10 minutes. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) if engine temperature does not increase more than 50°F (10°C) in 13 minutes after engine is started for 2 consecutive trips. Possible causes are: defective thermostat, defective Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor, defective PCM, or defective connectors or wiring.
  1. Start engine and warm engine until engine coolant temperature is greater than 80°F (27°C). Shut engine off. Disconnect connector at ECT sensor. ECT is located near thermostat housing and contains Black/Light Blue wire and Tan/Black wire in the connector.
  2. Inspect connector for proper wire installation in proper cavities on connector for ECT sensor and that terminals are not corroded, pushed out or damaged. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If terminals are not corroded, pushed out, miswired or damaged, go to next step. If terminals are corroded, pushed out, miswired or damaged, repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A .
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect connectors at PCM. PCM is located between driver's side front fender and power distribution center, near battery.
  4. Inspect connector for proper wire installation in proper cavities on connectors for PCM and that terminals are not corroded, pushed out or damaged. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If terminals are not corroded, pushed out, miswired or damaged, go to next step. If terminals are corroded, pushed out, miswired or damaged, repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A .
  5. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminals on ECT sensor. If resistance is less than 11,000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 11,000 ohms or more, replace ECT sensor. Perform TEST VER-5A .
  6. Check that thermostat is operating correctly. If thermostat operates correctly, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-5A . If thermostat is not operating correctly, replace thermostat. Perform TEST VER-5A .
