Rear Wiper Inoperative

NOTE: For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition on. Depress rear wiper switch to ON position. If indicator light on switch illuminates, go to next step. If indicator light does not illuminate, go to step  7 .
  2. Using scan tool, read rear wiper switch voltage. If voltage is about 2.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not about 2.5 volts, check communications between Heater, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control module and Body Control Module (BCM). See appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  3. Turn ignition and all lights off. Disconnect rear wiper motor connector. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 3 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, repair open Black wire.
  4. Turn ignition on. Ensure rear wiper switch is still on. Using external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 2 (Brown/Pink wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Brown/Pink wire or junction block fuse No. 6.
  5. Move positive voltmeter probe to rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Light Green wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace rear wiper motor. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between ground to rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Light Green wire). Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector "B". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and BCM connector "B" terminal No. 49 (Brown/Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Brown/Light Green wire.
  7. Remove fuse No. 6 from junction block. Junction block is located uner driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . If fuse is okay, go to step  9 . If fuse is open, go to next step.
  8. Disconnect Heater, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control module 21-pin Blue connector (integral with instrument panel unit). Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and HVAC connector terminal No. 10 (Brown/Pink wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Brown/Pink wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace HVAC module.
  9. Disconnect Heater, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control module 21-pin Blue connector (integral with instrument panel unit). Using external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and HVAC connector, terminal No. 10 (Brown/Pink wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace HVAC module. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Brown/Pink wire.
