Chime Sounds With Driver Door Open & Key Out

NOTE: For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.

Ensure all interior and exterior lights are off. Turn ignition off and remove key from ignition. Open driver's door. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, system is currently functioning correctly.
Using scan tool, read key-in ignition switch status. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, go to next step.
Disconnect key-in ignition switch connector. See Figure . Using scan tool, read key-in ignition switch status. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, replace ignition switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, go to next step.
Disconnect BCM connector "A". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Inspect connector for damaged pins, corrosion and loose terminals. Repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, ensure all lights and accessories are off. Close all doors. Using external ohmeter, measure resistance between ground and BCM connector "A" terminal No. 32 (Light Blue wire). If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair Light Blue wire between BCM and ignition switch for short to ground. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, replace BCM.
