Exterior Light Test 3A - Headlights Will Not Turn Off
NOTE:
Perform EXTERIOR LIGHT TEST 1A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform, after each repair, VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Using scan tool, read headlight switch sense. If scan tool displays HEADLAMP SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display HEADLAMP SW: CLOSED, go to step 4).
- Disconnect headlight switch. Read headlight switch sense. If scan tool displays HEADLAMP SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display HEADLAMP SW: CLOSED, replace headlight switch.
- Disconnect junction block connector "A". See Figure . Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance on headlight switch connector terminal No. 3 (Light Green/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Light Green/Orange wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure .
- Disconnect low beam headlight relay. See Figure in EXTERIOR LIGHT TEST 2A. If headlights turn off, go to next step. If headlights do not turn off, replace Power Distribution Center (PDC).
- If vehicle is Town & Country model, go to step 8). If vehicle is Caravan or Voyager model, go to next step.
- Disconnect multifunction switch connector. See Figure in CHIME TEST 4B. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance on terminal No. 10 (Orange/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Orange/White wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
- Measure resistance on terminal No. 9 (Pink wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Pink wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace low beam headlight relay.
- Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal "C" on low beam relay connector in PDC. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or greater, replace low beam relay.
- Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) "B" connector. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and terminal l "C" on low beam relay connector in PDC. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair Orange/White wire for short to ground. If resistance is 100 ohms or greater, replace BCM.
