Test 2A - No Response From Air Bag Control Module
NOTE:
For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
and WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform TEST VER-2A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
- Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage on Air Bag Control Module (ABCM) side of fuse No. 27 (Dark Blue/Yellow wire) in power distribution center. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to step 7). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Disconnect battery and wait 2 minutes. Disconnect ABCM connector. ABCM is located under center of instrument panel. Connect battery. Turn ignition on.
- Measure voltage on ABCM connector, terminal No. 6 (Light Green/Yellow wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open Light Green/Yellow wire.
- Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance on ABCM connector, terminal No. 11 (Black/Light Green wire). If resistance is 15 ohms or more, repair open Black/Light Green wire. If resistance is less than 15 ohms, go to next step.
- Do not disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition off. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance of Violet/Brown wire between ABCM 13-pin connector terminal No. 4 and DLC terminal No. 3. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Violet/Brown wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Measure resistance of White/Black wire between ABCM 13-pin connector terminal No. 3 and DLC terminal No. 11. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open White/Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to AIR BAG SYSTEM TEST 15A in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section.
- Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage on component side of fuse No. 27 in power distribution center. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open ignition switch output circuit between fuse and ignition switch. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove ignition switch fuse. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance on ABCM side of fuse No. 27 (Dark Blue/Yellow wire) in power distribution center. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace fuse No. 27. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect battery and wait 2 minutes. Disconnect ABCM 13-pin connector. Measure resistance on ABCM connector, terminal No. 6 (Light Green/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Light Green/Yellow wire for short to ground and replace fuse No. 27. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace ABCM and fuse No. 27.
