Exterior Light Test 2A - Headlights Will Not Turn On

NOTE: Perform EXTERIOR LIGHT TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  and WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. If both headlights do not illuminate, go to step 3). If only one headlight does not illuminate, inspect appropriate fuse in Power Distribution Center (PDC). Inspect fuse No. 23 for left headlight, fuse No. 22 for right headlight. See Fig 1 . Replace fuse as needed. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  2. Reinstall fuse. Disconnect inoperative headlight connector. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage on terminal No. 3 (Violet wire (left), Violet/Red wire (right). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace headlight. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Violet or Violet/Red wire.
  3. Using scan tool, actuate headlight relay. If headlights do not illuminate, go to step 7). If headlights illuminate, turn on headlight switch. Using scan tool, read headlamp switch sense. If scan tool displays HEADLAMP SWITCH: CLOSED, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure in CHIME TEST 2A. If scan tool does not display HEADLAMP SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step.
  4. Access BCM connector "A". Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Connect jumper wire between chassis ground and terminal No. 13 (Light Green/Orange wire). Using scan tool, read headlamp switch sense. If scan tool displays HEADLAMP SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display HEADLAMP SWITCH: CLOSED, replace BCM.
  5. Disconnect jumper wire. Disconnect headlight switch connector. Connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 3 (Light Green/Orange wire) on headlight switch connector. Using scan tool, read headlamp switch sense. If scan tool displays HEADLAMP SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display HEADLAMP SWITCH: CLOSED, repair open Light Green/Orange wire.
  6. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 2 (Black wire) on headlight switch connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace headlight switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Black wire.
  7. Stop headlight relay actuation. Remove and inspect fuses No. 22 and 23. Replace as needed. Reinstall fuses. Disconnect headlight low beam relay. See Fig 1 . Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage on relay socket terminal "A". Go to next step.
  8. If voltage is 10 volts or less, replace Power Distribution Center (PDC). If voltage is more than 10 volts, connect jumper wire between low beam relay socket terminals "A" and "D". If headlights do not illuminate, go to EXTERIOR LIGHT TEST 2B  . If headlights illuminate, go to next step.
  9. Remove jumper wire. Install low beam headlight relay. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. See Figure in CHIME TEST 4B. Connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 10 (Orange/White wire) on multifunction switch connector. If headlights illuminate, go to step 11). If headlights do not illuminate, go to next step.
  10. Disconnect low beam headlight relay. See Fig 1 . Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal "C" on relay socket. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace low beam headlight relay. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open low beam relay control circuit. See HEADLIGHTS in the SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the WIRING DIAGRAMS section.
  11. Remove jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between multifunction switch connector terminal No. 9 (Red/Yellow wire) and chassis ground. Access junction block connector "D". See Figure in CHIME TEST 2A. Go to next step.
  12. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, backprobe junction block connector "D", terminal No. 32 (Red/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace multi-function switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Red/Yellow wire. See HEADLIGHTS in the SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the WIRING DIAGRAMS section.
