Test NTC-15A - Checking Intake Air Temperature Sensor

NOTE: Perform TEST TC-118A, NTC-1A or NTC-14A before proceeding. When performing this test, DO NOT allow more than 5 minutes between measuring temperature of intake air temp sensor with scan tool and measuring the air temperature on inside of intake manifold with temperature probe.
  1. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, measure and record the temperature of intake air temperature sensor. Turn ignition off.
  2. Remove intake air temperature sensor from intake manifold. Intake air temperature sensor is located on rear of intake manifold, near cylinder head and contains a Gray 2-pin connector.
  3. Using temperature probe, quickly measure the air temperature on inside of intake manifold, where intake air temperature sensor is mounted.
  4. If intake air temperature sensor on scan tool is within 10°F (-12°C) of temperature obtained on temperature probe, intake air temperature sensor is okay. If intake air temperature sensor on scan tool is not within 10°F (-12°C) of temperature obtained on temperature probe, replace intake air temperature sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A.
