Instrument Cluster Test 1A - Identifying Instrument Cluster Problems
NOTE:
Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see appropriate sections in this article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select ELECTRO/MECHANICAL cluster. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A - IDENTIFYING VEHICLE EQUIPMENT & SYSTEM PROBLEMSNOTE: For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, go to appropriate section in this article. When directed to go to next step, disregard step if vehicle is not equipped with module being tested.NOTE: Perform a visual inspection before proceeding with this test.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is a 16-pin connector located on left side of steering column. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If scan tool display is not blank, go to next step. If scan tool display is blank, see appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool display is other than described, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select READ DTCs. If scan tool displays RAM TEST FAILURE or ROM TEST FAILURE, replace instrument cluster circuit board. Recalibrate gauges. If scan tool display is other than described, go to next step.
- If scan tool displays BODY COMPUTER ODOMETER FAILURE, replace Body Control Module (BCM) "B" connector. BCM is located with junction block. See Figure
in CHIME TEST 2A. If scan tool displays NO MESSAGES FROM BCM, NO MESSAGES FROM PCM or NO MESSAGES FROM TCM, go to appropriate SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A - IDENTIFYING VEHICLE EQUIPMENT & SYSTEM PROBLEMSNOTE: For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, go to appropriate section in this article. When directed to go to next step, disregard step if vehicle is not equipped with module being tested.NOTE: Perform a visual inspection before proceeding with this test.
