Test 5A - Identifying Mileage & Distance Problems

  1. Using scan tool, read Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors. Observe TPS while moving throttle. If TPS percent does not change as throttle is open, see the appropriate G - TESTS W/ CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.

If TPS percent changes as throttle is open, go to next step.

2) Raise and support vehicle. Start engine and shift vehicle into Drive. Using scan tool, read PCM monitors. Observe VSS while wheels rotate. If MPH does not increase as throttle is opened, see the appropriate G - TESTS W/ CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE (above). If MPH increases as throttle is opened system is operating properly at this time.
