Test 10A - Bus (+) & Bus (-) Shorted Together

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using DRB-II, indicate whether vehicle is equipped with specific module. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM), if equipped. TCM is located on left side of engine compartment, near cowl.
  2. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace TCM. Perform TEST VER-1.
  3. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located between data link connector and battery, on fenderwell. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-1.
  4. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) module, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace CAB module. Perform TEST VER-1.
  5. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) or Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC). Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace MIC or EIC. Perform TEST VER-1.
  6. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect Vehicle Theft Alarm (VTA) module, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace VTA module. Perform TEST VER-1.
  7. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect compass/mini-trip module, if equipped. Compass/mini-trip module is located at center of roof, above visors. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace compass/mini-trip module. Perform TEST VER-1.
  8. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off. Disconnect auto temperature control head, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace auto temperature control head. Perform TEST VER-1.
  9. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect Body Control Module (BCM), if equipped. BCM is located under lower knee panel of dashboard. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace BCM. Perform TEST VER-1. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, disconnect DRB-II.
  10. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between CCD data link connector CCD bus positive circuit (White/Violet wire on YJ body and Violet/Brown wire on all others) and ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in CCD bus positive circuit. Perform TEST VER-1.
  11. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, check resistance between CCD data link connector CCD bus negative circuit (White/Black wire on AS body) and ground.
  12. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in CCD bus negative circuit. Perform TEST VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace DRB-II cable or cartridge as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1.
