Heated Oxygen (O2) Sensor
The O2 sensor produces an electrical voltage signal in response to the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases. The O2 sensor, mounted in the exhaust system, is electrically heated for faster switching from open loop to closed loop operation. The O2 sensor acts as a rich/lean switch continuously sending voltage signals to the SMEC. The SMEC reads the voltage signal from the O2 sensor and adjusts injector pulse width to maintain correct air/fuel ratio.
