Purge Solenoid
The purge solenoid is controlled by SMEC. When engine operating temperature is below 45°F (61°C), SMEC grounds the purge solenoid thereby energizing the component. This prevents vacuum from reaching the charcoal canister valve. When temperature reaches or exceeds the given value, the purge solenoid is de-energized and vacuum is allowed to flow to charcoal canister valve. Normal purging of fuel vapors to throttle body is then allowed to continue.
