Scan Tool Communication With ETACS Ecu Not Possible
- Attempt to communicate with other systems. If scan tool communicates with other systems, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with any systems, go to SCAN TOOL COMMUNICATION WITH ANY SYSTEM NOT POSSIBLE .
- Check if scan tool can communicate with Electronic Timer Alarm Control System Electronic Control Unit (ETACS ECU) with ignition switch in any position except ON, go to next step. If scan tool cannot communicate with ETACS ECU with ignition switch in any position except on, check for faulty Green wire between ignition switch and ETACS ECU connector C319 terminal No. 8, or faulty Red/White wire between dedicated fuse No. 18 (10-amp) on junction block and ETACS ECU connector C319 terminal No. 20. See Figure .
- Check for poor connections at Data Link Connector (DLC) and ETACS ECU junction block connector C318 terminals. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. Verify that communication with ETACS ECU is now possible. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Check for faulty Gray/Red wire between ETACS ECU connector C318 terminal No. 67 and DLC terminal No. 1. See Figure . Check for open in Black wire between ETACS ECU connector C318 terminal No. 51 and DLC terminal No. 9. If faulty circuit is found, repair as necessary. Verify that communication with ETACS ECU is now possible. If circuits are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove ETACS ECU from junction block. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and ETACS ECU connector C319 terminal No. 3. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or less, replace ETACS ECU. Verify that communication with ETACS ECU is now possible.
- Check for poor connections at ETACS ECU connector C319 terminals. See Figure . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. Verify that communication with ETACS ECU is now possible. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Check for open in Black wire between ground and ETACS ECU connector C319 terminal No. 11. If faulty circuit is found, repair as necessary. Verify that communication with ETACS ECU is now possible. If circuit is okay, system is okay at this time.
