Open Driver Door Fails To Trip Alarm

  1. Open the drivers door. With the DRBIII select: THEFT ALARM, VTSS, INPUT/OUTPUT. With the DRBIII, read the DRV DOOR AJAR SW state. If the DRBIII shows: CLOSED, replace the RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, then see BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If the DRBIII does not show: CLOSED, go to the next step.
  2. Disconnect the driver door ajar switch connector. See Figure. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, test the ground circuit for continuity. If the light illuminated, go to the next step. If the light did not illuminate, repair the driver door ajar switch ground circuit for an open, then see VTSS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Disconnect the driver door lock motor/ajar switch connector. Connect a jumper wire between the front door ajar switch sense circuit and ground. With the DRBIII select: THEFT ALARM, VTSS, INPUT/OUTPUT. With the DRBIII, read the DRV DOOR AJAR SW state. If the DRBIII shows: CLOSED, replace the driver door lock motor/ajar switch, then see VTSS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If the DRBIII does not show: CLOSED, go to the next step.
  4. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the driver door lock motor/ajar switch connector. Disconnect the RKE module connector. Measure the resistance of the front door ajar switch sense circuit between the door ajar switch connector and the RKE module connector. If the resistance is below 5 ohms, replace the remote keyless entry module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, then see BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If the resistance is above 5 ohms, repair the front door ajar switch sense circuit for an open, then see VTSS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
