Driver Door Fails To Lock & Unlock

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Disconnect the remote keyless entry module connector. See Figure. Lower the driver door window. Connect a jumper wire between the driver door lock relay output circuit and the ground circuit in the RKE module connector. Connect a jumper wire to the driver door unlock relay output circuit and momentarily touch it to the fused B+ circuit and observe the door lock. Reverse the jumper wires to drive the motor in the opposite direction. If the drivers door locked and unlocked, replace the remote keyless entry module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the drivers door did not lock and unlock, go to the next step.
  2. Ensure the RKE module is connected before proceeding. Remove the inner door trim panel to gain access to the door lock motor connector. See FRONT DOOR TRIM PANEL  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect the door lock motor connector. See Figure. Connect a test light between the driver door lock relay output and the driver door unlock relay output circuits in the door lock motor connector. Press the door lock switch to the lock and unlock positions. If the test light illuminated when the lock switch was pressed in both directions, replace the driver door lock motor. See DOOR LOCK MOTORS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article. If the test light did not illuminate when the lock switch was pressed in both directions, go to the next step.
  3. Remove the inner door trim panel to gain access to the door lock motor connector. Disconnect the door lock motor connector. Disconnect the remote keyless entry module connector. Measure the resistance of the driver door lock relay output wire between the RKE connector and the door lock motor connector. If the resistance is below 5 ohms, go to the next step. If the resistance is above 5 ohms, repair the driver door lock relay output wire for an open.
  4. Remove the inner door trim panel to gain access to the door lock motor connector. Disconnect the door lock motor connector. Disconnect the remote keyless entry module connector. Measure the resistance of the driver door unlock relay output wire between the RKE connector and the door lock motor connector. If the resistance is below 5 ohms, the test is complete. If the resistance is above 5 ohms, repair the open driver door unlock relay output wire.
