All Door Locks Inoperative
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Before testing, ensure vehicle is not in ship mode. Turn ignition off. Remove and inspect fuse No. 3 in fuse block. See Figure. If fuse is open, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 13.
- Ensure ignition is off. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and fuse No. 3 connector, fused B+ output circuit (Red wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, go to step 5.
- Disconnect RKE module connector, located under pad in center of instrument panel. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between RKE module connector terminal No. 3, B+ circuit (Red wire) and ground. See Figure. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground on Red wire.
- Replace RKE module. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - PT CRUISER article.
- Install fuse No. 3. Lock and unlock doors several times. If fuse fails, go to next step. If door locks operate and fuse does not fail, test is complete.
- Disconnect RKE module connector, located under pad in center of instrument panel. Check resistance between RKE module harness connector terminal No. 5, driver door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, repair short to ground on Pink/Black wire.
- Check resistance between RKE module harness connector terminal No. 6, door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, repair short to ground on Pink/Black wire.
- Check resistance between RKE module harness connector terminal No. 4, door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, repair short to ground on Orange/Black wire.
- Check resistance between RKE module harness connector terminal No. 16, driver door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, repair short to ground on Orange/Black wire.
- Check resistance between RKE module harness connector terminals No. 6, door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire) and No. 4 door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire). If resistance is one ohm or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than one ohm, disconnect each door lock motor while monitoring resistance. When resistance changes to more than one ohm, last motor disconnected is shorted. Replace shorted door lock motor.
- Check resistance between RKE module harness connector terminals No. 5 driver door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire) and No. 16 driver door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire). If resistance is 4.5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 4.5 ohms, replace shorted driver door lock motor.
- Replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Ensure ignition and all lights are off. Disconnect RKE module connector, located under pad in center of instrument panel. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between RKE module connector terminal No. 8, ground circuit (Black/Light Green wire) and ground. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or poor connection on Black/Light Green wire to ground, located at center of instrument panel.
- Ensure fuse No. 3 is installed. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground check both sides of fuse No. 3. Repair as necessary. Using a voltmeter, check voltage on RKE module connector terminal No. 3, fused B+ circuit (Red wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open on Red wire.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between RKE module harness connector terminals No. 5 driver door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire) and No. 4 door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire). If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, repair short between circuits.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between RKE module harness connector terminals No. 6 door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire) and No. 16 driver door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire). If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, repair short between circuits.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between RKE module harness connector terminals No. 5 driver door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire) and No. 16 driver door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire). If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, repair short between circuits.
- Replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
