Occupant Restraint Controller/Air Bag Control Module (Orc/ACM)
The ORC/ACM is mounted on bracket on transmission tunnel below instrument panel. The ORC/ACM mounting bracket also serves as instrument panel center support.
The ORC/ACM contains a microprocessor, impact sensor and energy- storage capacitors. The microprocessor contains the air bag system logic. The air bag system logic includes On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) and capability to communicate with instrument cluster to control the AIR BAG warning light. The microprocessor ORC/ACM monitors impact sensor signal and air bag system electrical circuits to determine system readiness. If ORC/ACM detects system fault, it sends message to Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) to turn on the AIR BAG warning light. The ORC/ACM microprocessor is pre-programmed to determine when deceleration rate is severe enough to require air bag system protection. When programmed conditions are met, ORC/ACM sends an electrical signal to deploy air bag system components.
