Instrument Cluster Warning Lights, Odometer & PRNDL Display

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool displays BODY COMPUTER ODOMETER FAILURE DTC, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . If scan tool does not display BODY COMPUTER ODOMETER FAILURE DTC, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, actuate ALL SEGMENTS test. If all segments fail to light, check connector between instrument cluster board and display. If any segments in odometer or PRNDL fail to illuminate, replace instrument cluster display. If any warning light fails to illuminate, remove and inspect inoperative warning indicator bulb. Replace bulb as necessary. If bulb is okay, visually inspect instrument cluster circuit board. Replace circuit board as necessary. If circuit board is replaced, recalibrate gauges using scan tool. If after performing all of the above there is still a problem with a warning light not lighting when it should or staying on all the time, perform appropriate test(s) in WARNING LIGHT TEST DIRECTORY  table. If all warning lights illuminate, system is functioning properly at this time. Fault may be intermittent.

    (1) See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
    (2) See FUEL LEVEL SENDING CIRCUIT ERROR  test.
  3. Ensure all doors are closed and properly aligned. Using scan tool, select BODY SYSTEM, then BODY COMPUTER. Select INPUTS/OUTPUTS. Observe door and liftgate ajar switch status. If scan tool displays any ajar switch status CLOSED, perform appropriate test under INTERIOR LIGHTING. See DOOR AJAR SYMPTOM DIRECTORY  table. If scan tool does not display any ajar switch status CLOSED, system is functioning properly at this time. Fault may be intermittent.

    DRDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED Shorted Driver's Door Ajar Circuit 
    PASSDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED Shorted Passenger's Door Ajar Circuit 
    RSLIDE DR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED Shorted Right Sliding Door Ajar Circuit 
    LSLIDE DR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED Shorted Left Sliding Door Ajar Circuit 
    LIFTGATE AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED Shorted Liftgate Ajar Circuit 
    (1) Under INTERIOR LIGHTING.
  4. Ensure washer fluid reservoir is not empty. Using scan tool, read washer fluid switch status. If scan tool displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to step  7 .
  5. Disconnect washer fluid switch connector on bottom of reservoir. Using scan tool, read washer fluid switch status. If scan tool displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace washer fluid level switch.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector "B". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 58 (Black/Tan wire) at BCM connector "B". See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Tan wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace BCM.
  7. Disconnect washer fluid switch connector on bottom of reservoir. Connect a jumper wire between ground and Black/Tan wire at washer fluid level switch connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read washer fluid switch status. If scan tool displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open in Black wire between ground and washer fluid switch connector. If scan tool does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to next step.
  8. Remove jumper wire. Reconnect jumper wire between washer fluid switch connector terminals. Using scan tool, read washer fluid switch status. If scan tool displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace washer fluid level switch. If scan tool does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to next step.
  9. Access Body Control Module (BCM) connector "B". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Backprobing BCM connector "B", connect a jumper between ground and terminal No. 58 (Black/Tan wire) at BCM connector "B". See Figure . Using scan tool, read washer fluid switch status. If scan tool displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open in Black/Tan wire between BCM and washer fluid switch connector. If scan tool does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace BCM.
