Bus (+) & Bus (-) Shorted Together

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.

Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM). TCM is located in engine compartment on right front fenderwell. Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace TCM. Set pinion factor to ensure correct tire size is set for proper speedometer operation. See appropriate PINION FACTOR PROCEDURE in COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. PCM is located in engine compartment between left inner fender and power distribution center. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace PCM. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
Turn ignition off. Disconnect CCD radio Black 2-pin connector from back of radio. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace radio. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
Turn ignition off. If vehicle is not equipped with Disconnect Compass/Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC), go to next step. If vehicle is equipped with CMTC, disconnect CMTC. CMTC is located behind overhead console. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace CMTC. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
Turn ignition off. Disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) module. CAB module is located on right side of engine compartment and has a Black 25-pin connector. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace CAB module. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster Black 13-pin connector. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace instrument cluster. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
Turn ignition off. Disconnect Heating/Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) module 21-pin connector C1. HVAC module is part of heating-A/C control assembly in center of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace HVAC module. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate MANUAL or AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace BCM. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
Turn ignition off and wait 2 minutes to allow air bag system back-up power source to discharge. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) Black 12-pin connector. ACM is located under center of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace ACM. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
Ensure all modules mentioned in steps 1) -9) are disconnected. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between terminals No. 3 (Violet/Brown wire) and No. 34 (White/Black wire) at BCM connector "A". See Figure . If resistance is 500 ohms or more, replace scan tool cable or scan tool. If resistance is less than 500 ohms, Violet/Brown wire and White/Black wire shorted together. Repair wiring as necessary.
