Doors Lock With Key In Ignition & Left Door Open

  1. Using scan tool, select BODY SYSTEM, then BODY COMPUTER. Scan tool will perform a CCD bus test. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to BATTERY POWER TO MODULE DISCONNECTED OR NO RESPONSE FROM BCM  under COMMUNICATIONS. If scan tool displays a bus failure message, perform appropriate bus failure test under COMMUNICATIONS  . If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE or any bus failure messages, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, select SENSOR DISPLAY and read ignition voltage. If scan tool displays less than 10 volts, go to BATTERY POWER TO MODULE DISCONNECTED OR NO RESPONSE FROM BCM  under COMMUNICATIONS. If scan tool displays 10 volts or more, go to next step.
  3. Place key in ignition. Open driver's door. Lock doors from interior lock switch. Doors should not lock. If doors locked, go to next step. If doors did not lock, system is functioning properly at this time. Fault may be intermittent.
  4. Using scan tool, read driver's door ajar status. If scan tool displays DR DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DR DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, go to OPEN DRIVER'S DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT OR COURTESY LIGHTS INOPERATIVE WITH DRIVER'S DOOR  under INTERIOR LIGHTING.
  5. Using scan tool, read key-in ignition status. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION: CLOSED, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION: CLOSED, go to next step.
  6. Remove lower steering column cover. Disconnect key-in ignition switch Green connector from back of ignition switch. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and Black wire at key-in ignition switch connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire between ground and key-in ignition switch connector.
  7. Connect a jumper wire between key-in ignition switch connector terminals. Using scan tool, read key-ignition status. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION: CLOSED, replace ignition switch. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION: CLOSED, go to next step.
  8. Gain access to BCM connector "A". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Do not disconnect connector. Backprobing, connect a jumper between ground and terminal No. 32 (Light Blue wire) at BCM connector "A". See Figure . If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION: CLOSED, repair open in Light Blue wire. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION: CLOSED, go to next step.
  9. Disconnect BCM connector "A". Inspect connector for damaged, pushed out or crossed terminals. Repair as necessary. If terminals are okay, replace BCM.
