Chime Inoperative With Driver's Seat Belt Unfastened
- Turn ignition off. Ensure driver's seat belt is unfastened and driver's door is closed. Turn ignition on. If chime sounds, system is functioning properly at this time. Fault may be intermittent. If chime does not sound, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, read seat belt switch status. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT SWITCH: CLOSED, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure
.
- Disconnect driver's seat belt switch connector. Inspect connector for damaged pins, corrosion and loose terminals. Repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, connect a jumper wire between driver's seat belt switch harness connector terminals. Using scan tool, read seat belt switch status. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT SWITCH: CLOSED, replace driver's seat belt switch.
- Connect a jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) at driver's seat belt switch harness connector. Using scan tool, read seat belt switch status. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT SWITCH: CLOSED, repair open ground (Black wire).
- Access Body Control Module (BCM) connector "B". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure
. Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Connect one end of a jumper wire to ground. Using other end of jumper wire, backprobe terminal No. 78 (Light Green/Red wire) at BCM connector "B". See Fig 1
. Using scan tool, read seat belt switch status. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT: CLOSED, repair open in Light Green/Red wire between driver's seat belt switch and BCM. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT: CLOSED, replace BCM.
