DTC P1495: Leak Detection Pump Solenoid Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
NOTE: Leak detection pump solenoid operation is monitored immediately after a cold start with ambient temperature of 40-90°F (4.4-32.0°C) and engine coolant temperature is within 10°F (-12°C) of ambient temperature. Leak detection pump may also be referred to as LDP or EVAP leak detection pump. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) if state of leak detection pump solenoid does not change. Possible causes are; defective leak detection pump, defective PCM, or defective connectors or wiring.
  1. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, actuate leak detection pump solenoid. Listen for clicking sound at leak detection pump solenoid located on leak detection pump. Leak detection pump is located on bracket mounted on EVAP canister. See Figure . EVAP canister is located just above passenger's side corner of fuel tank. If clicking sound is heard at leak detection pump solenoid, go to next step. If clicking sound is not heard at leak detection pump solenoid, go to step  4 .
  2. Ensure ignition is on with engine off and leak detection pump solenoid is still actuated. While listening for change in operation of leak detection pump solenoid, wiggle wiring harness and connectors from leak detection pump to PCM. PCM is located at driver's side front corner of engine compartment, just below air cleaner assembly. If leak detection pump solenoid does not stop clicking while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, go to next step. If leak detection pump stops clicking while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A  .
  3. Turn ignition off. Inspect wiring harness and connectors between leak detection pump and PCM. If no problems exist, test is complete. If any problems exist, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A  .
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect leak detection pump connector. Leak detection pump is located on bracket mounted on EVAP canister. See Figure . EVAP canister is located just above passenger's side corner of fuel tank. Leak detection pump wiring may go to into the fuel pump module connector. Fuel pump module connector is located inside the trunk, below carpet, next to driver's side strut tower. See Figure . Fuel pump module contains fuel pump, fuel level sending and is located on top of fuel tank.
  5. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using voltmeter, check voltage at Light Green/Black wire to leak detection pump. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open on Light Green/Black wire to leak detection pump. Light Green/Black wire goes from leak detection pump to fuse No. 9 (10-amp). Fuse No. 9 is located in power distribution center and receives voltage from ignition switch. Power distribution center is located at driver's side front corner of engine compartment, near air cleaner assembly. Perform TEST VER-5A  .
  6. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect PCM connectors. PCM is located at driver's side front corner of engine compartment, just below air cleaner assembly.
  7. Ensure leak detection pump connector is still disconnected. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and terminal No. 77 (White/Dark Green wire) on PCM connector C2. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on White/Dark Green wire between PCM and leak detection pump. Perform TEST VER-5A  .
  8. Reinstall leak detection pump connector. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using voltmeter, check voltage at terminal No. 77 (White/Dark Green wire) on PCM connector C2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, replace leak detection pump. Perform TEST VER-5A  .
  9. Turn ignition off. Disconnect leak detection pump connector. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between White/Dark Green wire on leak detection pump connector and terminal No. 77 (White/Dark Green wire) on PCM connector C2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-5A  . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on White/Dark Green wire between PCM and leak detection pump. Perform TEST VER-5A  .
