Removal & Installation (Deployed Module)

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Wear rubber gloves, eye protection, and long-sleeved shirt when removing deployed air bag module. See DEPLOYED AIR BAG CLEAN-UP  under DISPOSAL PROCEDURES.
  2. Roll or fold deployed air bag toward instrument panel surface and tuck into instrument panel module area. Tape ripped instrument panel pad over deployed air bag. Remove instrument panel and pad assembly. See INSTRUMENT PANEL  . Remove passenger air bag module. See Fig 2 & Fig 3 .
  3. To install, transfer all instrument panel components which are not damaged to NEW instrument panel and pad assembly. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . DO NOT connect battery at this time. Perform air bag system check to ensure system is functioning properly. See AIR BAG SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.
