Test NTC-16: Checking Minimum Idle Air Flow

  1. Disconnect PCV valve hose from intake manifold and cap vacuum port on intake manifold. Disconnect idle purge hose from throttle body. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . Using small vacuum hose, install Air Metering Fitting (6457) on idle purge hose fitting on throttle body.

  2. Start engine and allow engine to idle. Operate engine until engine is at normal operating temperature. Using scan tool manufacturer's instructions, access the MINIMUM AIRFLOW IDLE SPEED. If engine RPM is not 500-1000 RPM, go to next step. If engine RPM is 500-1000 RPM, throttle body is okay. Test is complete.
  3. Remove throttle body. With throttle fully open on throttle body, clean throttle body with parts cleaner. Using soft brush or pad, ensure throttle body bore and throttle plate are clean. Dry throttle body with compressed air.
  4. Reinstall throttle body. Recheck throttle body minimum airflow. If throttle body minimum airflow idle RPM is 500-1000 RPM, throttle body is okay. Test is complete. If throttle body minimum airflow idle RPM is not 500-1000 RPM, replace throttle body. Perform TEST VER-2A .
