Bus (+) & Bus (-) Shorted Together

NOTE: For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM), if equipped. TCM is located in left front corner of engine compartment, next to power distribution center. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace TCM. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located next to air cleaner. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace PCM. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace instrument cluster. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Smart Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), if equipped. SKIM is located at ignition lock cylinder. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace SKIM. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect anti-lock brake controller module. Anti-lock brake controller module is mounted on right inner fender panel of engine compartment. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace anti-lock brake controller module. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off and wait 5 minutes. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) 13-pin connector. ACM is located under center console. Turn ignition on. Open driver's door or turn on courtesy light. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace ACM. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, go to next step.
  7. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 14-pin and 22-pin connectors. BCM is connected to junction block. Disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC). Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between DLC bus (+) and related bus (-) terminals on BCM 14-pin and 22-pin connectors. See CCD BUS CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair short between applicable circuits. If resistance is 1000 ohms or more, go to next step.
  8. Reconnect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, perform CCD bus test. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace scan tool cable or scan tool as necessary. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace BCM.
