Test NTC-17: Checking Minimum Idle Air Flow

NOTE: Possible causes are: throttle body defective or stop actuation failure.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCV valve from intake vacuum hose. Install Orifice (6457) to intake manifold nipple. Disconnect 3/16" evaporative vacuum supply hose from throttle body. Cap 3/16" nipple. Start engine. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature of 180°F (82°C). Using scan tool, actuate minimum airflow. Observe engine speed. If engine speed is 500-1000 RPM, stop actuation test. Test is complete. If engine speed is not 500-1000 RPM, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove throttle body from engine. Using rubber gloves and parts cleaner, clean throttle body assembly in a well ventilated area. Using a soft scuff pad, clean throttle bore and throttle plate. Using compressed air, dry throttle body assembly. Install throttle body onto engine. Start engine. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature of 180°F (82°C). Using scan tool, actuate minimum airflow. Observe engine speed. If engine speed is 500-1000 RPM, stop actuation test. Test is complete. If engine speed is not 500-1000 RPM, replace throttle body assembly. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II  .
