Test NTC-14: Checking Pcm Power & Ground Circuits

NOTE: Possible causes are: PCM ground circuit high resistance, fused B+ circuit open or fused ignition switch output circuit open.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C2 (located nearest to rear of vehicle) and connector C1 (located nearest to front of vehicle). PCM is located to left of Power Distribution Center (PDC) in engine compartment. Inspect electrical connectors and clean/repair as necessary. Using a DVOM, check resistance of the following ground circuits:
    • PCM connector C1 terminal No. 10 (Black/Tan wire).
    • PCM connector C1 terminal No. 27 (Black/Orange wire).
    • PCM connector C2 terminal No. 43 (Black/Light Blue wire).
    • PCM connector C2 terminal No. 47 (Black wire).
    • PCM connector C2 terminal No. 50 (Black/Tan wire).
    If resistance is 5 ohms or less for all circuits, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms for any circuit, repair affected ground circuit for high resistance to ground. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II  .
  2. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, check resistance of PCM connector C2 terminal No. 46 (Red/Tan wire). If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open fused B+ circuit. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II  .
  3. Using a DVOM, check resistance of PCM connector C1 terminal No. 20 (Dark Blue/White wire). If voltage is 10 volts or more, test is complete. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open fused ignition switch output circuit. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II  .
