DTC P0441: EVAP Purge Flow Monitor Failure

NOTE: For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
NOTE: Monitored with engine temperature more than 170°F (77°C), engine in closed loop, engine idling for 2 minutes, no low fuel, MAP less than 15.7 in. Hg, and barometric altitude less than 8000 feet. Set condition is when no airflow through evaporative system is detected by EVAP monitor. Possible causes are: purge canister line damaged, purge solenoid and canister defective or vacuum hoses damaged or plugged. EVAP purge solenoid may also be referred to as EVAP solenoid or proportional purge solenoid.
  1. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP displayed is zero, go to step  3 . If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP is not zero, go to next step.
  2. At this time the EVAP purge flow monitor failure does not exist or is an intermittent problem. Using scan tool, read FREEZE FRAME data and PURGE FLOW PRE-TEST. Attempt to duplicate the condition that causes DTC to be set. While using FREEZE FRAME data, pay attention to the conditions such as vehicle speed, temperature, load and MAP sensor vacuum. If EVAP purge flow monitor failure reoccurs, go to next step. If EVAP purge flow monitor failure does not reoccur, failure is no longer present. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  .
  3. Inspect vacuum hoses from engine to solenoid, to fuel tank for proper routing, pinched or plugged hoses. If vacuum hoses are okay, go to next step. If vacuum hoses are not okay, repair or replace as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  .
  4. Remove purge solenoid from vehicle. Purge solenoid is located at right front corner of engine compartment. Tap solenoid against a clean solid surface. If any foreign material falls out, ensure all material is removed. Go to next step. If any foreign material does not fall out, replace purge solenoid. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  .
  5. Inspect line from purge solenoid to EVAP canister for damage. If line is okay, clean line out and replace purge solenoid and canister. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  . If line is not okay, repair as necessary and replace purge solenoid. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION  .
