Test 89A - Both Doors Fail To Lock & Unlock From Either Switch

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
  1. Ensure both front windows are still down. Using scan tool, actuate door locks. If doors lock, go to step 3). If doors do not lock, go to next step.
  2. Gain access to either door lock switch. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on door lock switch connector terminal No. 2 (Red wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace both door lock switches.
  3. Remove and inspect fuse No. 3. See Figure. If fuse is okay, go to step 5). If fuse is open, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of fuse No. 3 (Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Red wire between fuse block and lock relay for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace fuse No. 3.
  5. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on fuse No. 3 (Red/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red/White wire between fuse block and power distribution center. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  6. Reinstall fuse No. 3. Gain access to relay center, located under dash, attached to left kick panel. Remove both door lock and door unlock relays. See Figure. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on door lock relay connector terminal "D" (Red wire). See Figure. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  7. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of door lock relay and door unlock relay terminals "C" and "E" (Black wires). If resistance is more than 15 ohms on any circuit tested, repair open Black wire. If resistance is less than 15 ohms on all circuits tested, go to next step.
  8. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between door lock relay terminal "B" (Orange/Black wire) and door unlock relay terminal "B" (Light Green wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Orange/Black wire or Light Green wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace both door lock relay and door unlock relay.
