Instrument Cluster Test 3F - Repairing Fuel Gauge
NOTE:
Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 3A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER INTRODUCTION. Perform TEST VER-1A
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump module 4-pin connector, located behind back seat, in trunk. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Ensure fuel tank has some fuel in it. Turn ignition on with engine off. If fuel gauge does not display empty, go to next step. If fuel gauge displays empty, go to step 3).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM 20-pin connector located at junction block and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of BCM 20-pin connector terminal No. 15 (Dark Blue wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM.
- Remove fuel level sending unit from fuel tank. Inspect tank unit for foreign material and sending unit for bent, sticking or binding arm. If tank and sending unit are okay, system is operating properly. If tank and/or sending unit are not okay, repair or replace as necessary.
