TEST 84A - Vehicle Theft Alarm No Response From Powertrain Control Module

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in the beginning of the article. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS at the end of this article. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-2 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located between data link connector and battery on fenderwell. Disconnect Vehicle Theft Alarm (VTA) module. VTA module is located behind glove box.
  2. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance on CCD bus positive circuit (Violet/Brown wire) between PCM terminal No. 26 and VTA terminal No. 9. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open CCD bus positive circuit. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Check resistance on CCD bus negative circuit (White/Black wire) between PCM terminal No. 46 and VTA terminal No. 10. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open White/Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM.
