TEST 56C - Checking Ambient Temperature Sensor For Shorts

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS at the end of this article. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using DRB-II, measure ambient temperature sensor voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace ambient temperature sensor. If voltage is less than 4 volts, go to next step.
  2. Place DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect compass/temperature module connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector terminal No. 6 (Violet/Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/Light Green wire. If voltage is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector between terminals No. 6 (Violet/Green wire) and No. 8 (Black/Light Blue wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace compass/temperature module. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Violet/Light Green wire and Black/Light Blue wire.
