TEST 62A - Repairing Check Gauges Light Problem

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS at the end of this article. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Check engine oil level and top off oil as necessary. If oil level is okay, check coolant level.
  2. If coolant level is low, add coolant as necessary. If cooling system level is okay, turn ignition switch to ON position.
  3. Observe check gauges warning light. If warning light is off, go to TEST 62B. If warning light is on, start engine. If warning light is on after engine is started, go to next step. If warning light is off after engine is started, go to TEST 62C.
  4. Check oil gauge on instrument cluster. If oil pressure is low, check engine condition. See appropriate article in the ENGINES Section.
  5. If oil pressure is okay, check cooling system temperature gauge operation and check vehicle for overheating. Repair cooling system as necessary, see appropriate article in the ENGINE COOLING Section.
  6. If vehicle does not have an overheating or temperature gauge problem, check charging system. Repair charging system as necessary, see appropriate article in the ELECTRICAL Section. If charging system is okay, go to next step.
  7. With engine running actuate check gauges warning light test, using DRB-II. If check gauges warning light flashes, system is okay at this time. If check gauges warning light does not flash, turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  8. Disconnect body control module Black connector. Body controller is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connector and clean or repair connector as necessary. Start engine. Using DRB-II in voltmeter mode, probe body control module Black connector terminal No. 24, check gauges light control circuit (Dark Green/Yellow wire).
  9. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace body control module. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Green/Yellow wire.
