Test 73B - Faulty Door Ajar Circuit W/Visual Message Center

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Using DRB-II, read door ajar status. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to step 6). If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, observe visual message center while opening and closing each door. If visual message center does not show each door open, replace bulbs or repair circuit board as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  2. If visual message center shows each door open, disconnect visual message center 11-pin connector. Check condition of connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Using DRB-II, read door ajar status. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace visual message center. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, turn ignition off.
  3. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 1 (Tan/White wire) of BCM Black or Red connector.
  4. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect vehicle theft alarm module (if equipped). See Figure . Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary.
  5. Check resistance on terminal No. 1 (Tan/White wire) of BCM Black or Red connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace vehicle theft alarm module. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  6. If DRB-II did not display CIRCUIT CLOSED in step 1), open left front door. Using DRB-II, read door ajar switch status. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, check for vehicle speed sensor or throttle position sensor problems. See appropriate article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.
  7. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Tan/White wire) of BCM Black or Red connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Tan/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  8. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM connectors. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If connector condition is okay, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
