TEST 5A - Diagnosing Temperature Sensor System

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagrams, see appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS Section. Perform VERIFICATION TEST 71A after each repair.
  1. If vehicle is equipped with EVIC, perform TEST 5B. If vehicle is not equipped with EVIC and temperature display is more than 130°F (54°C), perform TEST 5C. If vehicle is not equipped with EVIC and temperature display is less than -30°F (-34°C), perform TEST 5D. If vehicle is not equipped with EVIC and temperature display is between 130°F to -30°F (54°C to -34°C), go to next step.
  2. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor connector, located on inside left front bumper. Using DRB-II, measure outside temperature sensor voltage. If voltage is less than 4 volts, replace compass/temperature module. If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to next step.
  3. Connect jumper wire across both ambient temperature sensor connector terminals. If voltage is more than one volt, replace compass/temperature module. If voltage is less than one volt, replace ambient temperature sensor.
