No Start Test 7B - Distributor Start Pick-Up Coil Resistance Check

  1. Disconnect distributor start pick-up coil connector (large connector). Connect an ohmmeter between pick-up coil connector terminals. Ohmmeter reading should be 150-900 ohms.

  2. If there is zero resistance, open circuit or resistance not within specifications, replace pick-up coil. If resistance is okay, reconnect distributor start pick-up coil connector. Disconnect the computer 10-way connector. Connect ohmmeter between 10-way connector cavities "3" and "5".

  3. Ohmmeter reading should be 150-900 ohms. If there is zero resistance, an open circuit or resistance not within specifications, replace pick-up coil. If resistance is okay, check distributor pick-up coil air gap. If okay, proceed to NO START TEST 8  .
