Poor Radio Reception or Noise in FM Mode

CONDITION & CAUSE
Some 1984-1985 Daytona, Laser and New Yorker FWD and 1985 Lancer and LeBaron GTS vehicles with electronic navigator may exhibit poor radio reception or noise in FM station mode. Condition may be caused by electronic navigator.
DIAGNOSIS
To determine if noise is due to electronic navigator, turn key to ACC. Turn radio on and tune in a weak FM station. Push TIME button on navigator. If radio noise occurs, proceed to repair procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED
"G" Body Laser/Daytona and "H" Body Lancer/LeBaron GTS: (1) Navigator Noise Suppression Package (4374085), consisting of: (1) Navigation Noise Suppression Module (4374075), (2) Self-Tapping 3/8" Screw (9414711).
"E" Body New Yorker with Front Wheel Drive: (1) Navigator Noise Suppression Package (4374086), consisting of: (1) Navigation Noise Suppression Module (4374077), (2) Self-Tapping 3/8" Screw (9414711).
REPAIR
- Disconnect battery. Remove electronic navigator. On "G" and "E" body vehicles. Remove 2 fasteners (tri-mount) next to connector. Install male end of suppression module (4374075- G body, or 4374077-E body), into navigator.
- Using 2 self-tapping screws (9414711), align mounting bracket on suppression module with holes in navigator. Install screws. Install navigator body wiring harness into female connector.
- On H body vehicles, remove one screw on side of navigator. Install male end of suppression module (4374075) into navigator. Using original navigator screw (discard supplied screws), align suppression module with hole and install screw.
- Position other end of suppression module bracket and solder in place. Install navigator body wiring harness into female connector of suppression module.
- Reinstall navigator. Reconnect battery. Verify navigator operation and perform diagnosis to ensure proper installation.
