Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove the front compartment front sight shield. Refer to Front Compartment Front Sight Shield Replacement .
1 Heated Oxygen Sensor

Procedure

  1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor harness connector.
NOTE:
  • The HO2S may be difficult to remove when the engine temperature is less than 48°C (120°F).
  • A special anti-seize compound is used on the HO2S threads. The compound consists of liquid graphite and glass beads. The graphite will burn away, but the glass beads will remain, making the sensor easier to remove. New, or service replacement sensors already have the compound applied to the threads. If the sensor is removed from an exhaust component and if for any reason is to be reinstalled, the threads must have anti-seize compound applied before reinstallation. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
