| Condition | Some customers may comment on the check engine light being on. Some technicians may find DTC P0401 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Flow Insufficient) set in the ECM. |
| Cause | On higher mileage vehicles, this condition may be caused by the EGR cooler being plugged, not allowing sufficient flow. |
| Correction | On higher mileage vehicles that have DTC P0401 set and no other EGR DTC, it is recommended to replace the EGR cooler for this condition. Clear codes and test drive to ensure DTC does not reset. If the code resets, replace the EGR valve. |
