Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2015 GMC Yukon XL, 2015 GMC Yukon, 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2015 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2015 Cadillac Escalade ESV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Inspect the brake caliper for damage and/or corrosion and replace, if necessary. Refer to Brake Caliper Inspection .
- Inspect the brake caliper guide pins and guide pin seals for damage and/or corrosion and replace, if necessary. Refer to Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection .
- Thoroughly clean the brake pad spring contact points and surfaces of the brake caliper bracket of any corrosion or debris.
- Clean any remaining debris from the brake pad spring contact points and surfaces of the brake caliper bracket with denatured alcohol and allow to dry.
- Do not apply any lubricant to either side of the brake pad springs (1) prior to installation to the brake caliper bracket.
- Apply a very thin coating of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the contact surfaces (1) of the brake caliper bracket.
- Install new brake pad springs (1).
- Thoroughly clean the brake caliper housing (1) of any adhesive residue from the removed disc brake pads.
- Remove the adhesive backing paper from the new disc brake pads, if necessary.
- Install the new disc brake pads (1) to the brake pad springs and caliper bracket.
- Rotate the brake caliper to the installed position.
- Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pin, install the brake caliper guide pin bolt (1) and tighten to 100 (74 lb ft).
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (6-Lug Wheel) .
- With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.
- Slowly release the brake pedal.
- Wait 15 seconds, then repeat steps 14 and 15 until a firm brake pedal apply is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
- Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the proper level. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling .
- Firmly apply and maintain pressure on the brake pedal for 30 seconds to seat the brake pad insulators to the brake caliper pistons and brake caliper housing. Repeat this step 1 additional time.
- Burnish the brake pads and rotors. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing .
NOTE:
Use of a wire brush may be required to remove heavier corrosion and debris from the brake pad spring contact points and surfaces of the brake caliper bracket.
NOTE:
When replacing the disc brake pads, maintain the same disc brake pad wear sensor orientation.

Refer to Fastener Caution .
NOTE:
Do not tear the brake caliper guide pin seal. Damage to the brake caliper guide pin seal may allow corrosion to form on the brake caliper guide pin and the guide pin bores.
