Installation Procedure

  1. Position the electronic power steering motor control module bracket (2) on the module.
    2. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    CAUTION:

    The electronic power steering motor control module and bracket are held together by fasteners that thread into brass inserts embedded in the control module housing. Do NOT overtighten the fasteners or the brass inserts will break free from the housing resulting in unnecessary replacement of the control module.

  2. Install the electronic power steering motor control module bracket bolts (1) and tighten to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
    1. Clean the threads of the bolts with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    2. Apply thread locking adhesive to the bolts. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  3. Position the electronic power steering motor control module (3) on the steering gear.
  4. Install the electronic power steering motor control module bracket bolt (2) and nut (1).
  5. Tighten the electronic power steering motor control module bracket nut (1) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  6. Connect the power steering control module wiring harness connectors (1) to the electronic power steering motor control module.
  7. Install the electronic power steering motor control module bracket bolt (2) and tighten to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

  9. Program the power steering control module. Control Module References
