Installation Procedure

  1. Place the intermediate shaft into the vehicle.
  2. Slide the upper coupling into the steering column shaft.
  3. Connect the intermediate steering gear shaft boot.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  4. Install the upper steering gear coupling nut (1) and bolt (2).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the upper coupling bolt to 48 (35 lb ft).

  5. Install the drivers instrument panel insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement .
  6. Remove J 42640  steering column lock pin from the steering column.

  7. Connect the lower coupling (2) onto the steering gear (3).
  8. Install the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt (1).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the lower coupling retaining bolt to 25 (18 lb ft).
