Removal Procedure
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
- Cover the generator in order to prevent power steering fluid from dripping on the generator.
- Remove the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement (LFX) , Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement (L99, LS3) .
- Place drain pans under the vehicle.
- If you will be installing a NEW power steering pump, remove as much power steering fluid from the reservoir as possible.
- Disconnect the power steering fluid cooler outlet hose (2) from the power steering fluid reservoir (1). Plug the power steering fluid cooler outlet hose.
- If you are removing and installing the same power steering pump, plug the power steering fluid reservoir inlet port.
- Disconnect the power steering gear inlet hose from the power steering pump. Cap the power steering gear inlet hose. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement .
- If you are removing and installing the same power steering pump, plug the power steering pump outlet port.
- Remove the 3 power steering pump bolts (1, 2, 3).
- Slide the power steering pump (4) off of the power steering pump bracket. Remove the power steering pump and the reservoir as an assembly from the vehicle.
- If you will be installing a NEW power steering pump, remove the power steering fluid reservoir from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (LFX) , Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (L99, LS3) .
CAUTION:
Do not start the vehicle with any power steering gear inlet or outlet hoses disconnected. When disconnected, plug or cap all openings of components. Failure to do so could result in contamination or loss of power steering fluid and damage to the system.
NOTE:
Introducing too much air into the power steering system will increase the amount of time required to bleed the system.
