Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with the scan tool.
  2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the steering wheel position sensor (SWPS) connector.
  3. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the low reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If greater than 1 ohm, test the low reference circuit and the EBCM ground circuit terminals 1 and 25 for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the EBCM.
  4. Test the signal phase A circuit terminal 3, signal phase B circuit terminal 4, and 5-volt reference circuit terminal 1, and the low reference circuit terminal 8 for an open/high resistance or a short to voltage or ground.
    • If all circuits test normal, replace the SWPS.
    • If the DTC sets again after replacing the SWPS, replace the EBCM.
