Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column.
  2. CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  3. Install the intermediate steering shaft upper pinch bolt at the steering column and tighten to 48 N.m (35 lb ft)  .

  5. Install the intermediate steering shaft seal onto the steering column.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  7. Connect the intermediate steering shaft (1) to the power steering gear stub shaft (2).
  8. Install the intermediate steering shaft lower pinch bolt at the power steering gear stub shaft and tighten to 48 N.m (35 lb ft)  .

  10. Install the intermediate steering shaft seal onto the power steering gear.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Install the bolts that retain the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  13. Install the left sound insulator.
  14. Remove the J-42640:  Pin from the steering column.
