Circuit/System Testing
Initial Test
- Ignition ON, observe the scan tool BCM Hood Switch Fault (in Remote Start) with the hood open, and with the hood closed. The parameter should display Not Present with the hood open or closed.
- If the parameter displays Present with the hood open and closed, test the ground circuit of the hood ajar switch for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the hood latch.
- If the parameter displays Present with the hood open only, refer to Hood Open Fault.
- If the parameter displays Present with the hood closed only, refer to Hood Closed Fault.
- If the scan tool BCM Hood Switch Fault (in Remote Start) displayed Not Present at all times and the Hood Open indicator/message displays with hood closed or does not display with the hood open, replace the instrument cluster.
IMPORTANT:
Wait 5 seconds after changing the hood position for the parameter to change states.
Hood Open Fault
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the hood ajar switch.
- Disconnect the harness connector X5 at the BCM.
- Verify a test lamp does not illuminate between the hood closed switch signal circuit terminal B of the hood ajar switch and B+.
- If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Disconnect the harness connector X4 at the BCM.
- Test for less than 2 ohms of resistance in the hood ajar switch signal circuit between the BCM X4 terminal 17 and hood ajar switch terminal A.
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, test the hood ajar switch.
- If the hood ajar switch passes the component test, replace the BCM.
Hood Closed Fault
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the hood ajar switch.
- Disconnect the harness connector X4 at the BCM.
- Verify a test lamp does not illuminate between the hood ajar switch signal circuit terminal A of the hood ajar switch and B+.
- If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Disconnect the harness connector X5 at the BCM.
- Test for less than 2 ohms of resistance in the hood closed switch signal circuit between the BCM X5 terminal 15 and hood ajar switch terminal B.
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, test the hood ajar switch.
- If the hood ajar switch passes the component test, replace the BCM.
