Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. 2:  The EBCM supplies a 5-volt reference to several sensors. DTC C0870 is set if the 5-volt reference voltage is out of range.

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information
2 Are all the stop lamps always ON or one or more inoperative? Go to SYMPTOMS - LIGHTING SYSTEMS in Lighting Systems Go to Step 3 
3 Use Scan Tool to display DTCs for the BCM.
Does Scan tool display DTC C0277 or C0278?
Go to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX in Vehicle DTC Information Go to Step 4
4 Confirm that the brake pedal position (BPP) is adjusted to the correct position and perform the BPP calibration procedure. Refer to BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR CALIBRATION in Lighting Systems.
Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
Does the DTC reset?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 6 
5 Repair open or short in the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) resistor.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 6  Go to Step 2

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
Does the DTC reset?
Go to Step 2  System OK
