Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2002 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Following the deployment of a side impact air bag, Inspect the following parts for damage. Replace these parts if necessary:
  • The seat cushion frame
  • The seat recliner, If equipped
  • The seat adjuster
  • The seat back frame

Failure to do so may cause future personal Injury. 

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
  2. Remove the passenger front seat. Refer to SEAT REPLACEMENT - BUCKET .
  3. Remove the J-clips on the back of the passenger's seat.
  4. Using a flat head screwdriver, remove the plastic molding (2) that holds the air bag inflator module (1) to the passenger seat back frame.

  5. Note the routing of the inflator module wiring harness (2) and the retaining clip attachments within the passenger seat.
  6. Remove the wiring harness retaining clips from the passenger seat frame.
  7. Remove the wiring harness (2) from the passenger seat frame.
  8. Remove the air bag inflator module (1) from the passenger seat back frame.
  9. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .
