Diagnostic Aids

Check for any of the following causes:

• Water-contaminated fuel, or an inferior quality fuel that can cause a no-start or hard start condition even though fuel injectors and circuits are okay.
• Check for a faulty spray pattern from fuel injector nozzle if both fuel injector solenoid and Fuel Injector circuit are okay.
• A leaking or stuck closed fuel injector can cause a fuel related engine misfire or performance concern. Perform FUEL INJECTOR BALANCE TEST  in order to check operation of fuel injectors.
• Fuel injectors may spray fuel, but not enough fuel to operate engine. Check Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor reading with a scan tool. The indicated temperature should be close to actual engine temperature in order for PCM to deliver correct amount of fuel.
• Normal fuel injector resistance is 13-16 ohms at 68°F (20°C). See FUEL INJECTOR COIL TEST - ECT IS 50-95°F (2.0L)  or FUEL INJECTOR COIL TEST - ECT IS 50-95°F (2.5L)  .
• An intermittent malfunction may be caused by a fault in fuel injector electrical circuit. Inspect wiring harness and components for an intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - 2.0L & 2.5L TRACKER article.
