Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Perform Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.0L TRACKER article. After performing Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls, go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. Using scan tool, check engine coolant temperature. If scan tool does not display 50-95°F (10-35°C), go to next step. If scan tool displays 50-95°F (10-35°C), see FUEL INJECTOR COIL TEST - ECT IS 50-95°F (2.0L) .
    3. CAUTION: In order to prevent flooding of cylinder and possible engine damage, relieve fuel pressure before performing injector coil test procedure.
    NOTE: Perform this step on each injector.
  3. Turn ignition off. Relieve fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF . Disconnect fuel injector harness connectors. Using fuel injector adapter, connect Fuel Injector Tester (J-39021) to fuel injector. Connect fuel injector tester power leads to appropriate battery terminals. Set amperage supply selector switch on fuel injector tester to Coil Test 0.5-amp position. Connect DVOM to injector tester. Depress PUSH TO START TEST button on injector tester. Observe voltage reading on DVOM. Record lowest voltage after first second of test. Record highest voltage reading recorded other than those more than 9.5 volts. Subtract any other voltage reading recorded observed from highest voltage reading recorded. If difference is more than one volt, go to next step. If difference is one volt or less, perform fuel injector balance test. See FUEL INJECTOR BALANCE TEST .
  4. Replace any injector(s) which had either an initial reading of more than 9.5 volts, an erratic reading or difference more than 0.6 volt. After repairs, perform fuel injector balance test. See FUEL INJECTOR BALANCE TEST .
